What we get up to... |
RoadThe club is an affiliated member of the British Cycling Federation (BCF) and the South East Road Race League (SERRL). There is therefore a wide variety of events available throughout Kent for a large part of the year. |
Time TrialTime Trialing is probably the most well represented discipline within the club. There is a full programme of club events, including the traditional 'Evening 10' which run throughout the summer months, and 'Interclub Competitions' which are run in conjunction with other clubs in the area. You can see the calendar of club events by clicking on the 'EVENTS' button at the top of this page. We are also affiliated members of the Road Time Trials Council (RTTC) the governing body for time trials in the UK and have a number of members who regularly participate in these 'Open' events. So, if 'The Race of Truth' is your thing your spoilt for choice! |
Mountain BikeWith a lot of club members being based in the North Kent area (Westerham, Tatsfield, Orpington etc.), and the number of Bridleways and Byways in and around the North Downs and the Weald of Kent mountain biking is a well represented activity. Regrettably there are no members within the club which are actively competing in either X-Country or Downhill events, although this is a situation that will hopefully change. Competition in the off-road arena is at present restricted to the Trail Quest, Trail Break and Polaris type events and a bit of Cyclo Cross during the winter months.Recreational mountain biking however is a different story. If what your after is a hack around some new trails with an aim of getting as filthy as possible, then one of our local trail experts will gladly give you a tour of the local routes, and dare I say it possible even be persuaded to stop at a watering hole on the way. |
Cyclo CrossCyclo Cross is something you either love or hate. Those that love it will be pleased to hear that we are affiliated members of the London Cyclo Cross League. There is normally a club member flying the flag a most local events. |
TouringWhilst the club is not an affiliated member of Audax UK there are members within the club who have affiliated independently, and recently participated in such monumentous events as Paris-Brest-Paris. There is also the annual 'Trip to the Tour' which organised by club members for club members and basically involves bikes, hotels and the Tour de France for about a week in July. This trip as become some what of a ritual for the Sydenham and is well attended each year. |
TrainingTraining is there if you want it, in the form of club runs which take place most weekends throughout the winter. Rides, in terms of speed and routes, are adapted to suit the people who turn up on the day. With a member base of approx. 40 and a wide range of abilities there will be someone going out in a 'Chain Gang' which will give you the level of effort you are after. |
SocialWe don't all compete! Casual, some would say more enjoyable, cycling activities take the form of a spin around the local lanes, a hack in the woods on mountain bikes, holidays to watch the Tour de France or a ride out to watch a local event and cheer on any club members taking part. There is also a club night on last Thursday of every month at the Bricklayers Arms in Chipstead nr Sevenoaks, Kent (map here!) where club members meet from approx. 9.00 PM onwards.During the festive season we also have an annual 'Club Dinner and Dance', and an Xmas ride to Knoxbridge Cafe for lunch etc. |
